Lumin Sports, the Australian sports technology and software provider, is set to a play a role in monitoring the health and wellbeing of commercial airline pilots.
It comes as HUPERCO, a performance and wellbeing initiative lead by Dr Brendyn Appleby, appoints Lumin as its software provider of choice.
HUPERCO’s Flying Fit program is an Australian first and provides tailored physical and wellness programs for pilots.
Lumin’s platform will allow HUPERCO to monitor pilot wellbeing, disperse custom strength and conditioning programs, and support pilots with their health goals wherever they are.
HUPERCO founder and former Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Australian Men’s Hockey team, Dr Brendyn Appleby, said Lumin will be integral to Flying Fits program delivery.
''Commercial pilots face unique health and performance challenges that are often overlooked,’’ Dr Appleby said.
‘’Their occupation demands they maintain peak performance while dealing with disrupted sleep patterns, time zone changes, prolonged periods of inactivity, and limited access to proper nutrition.’’
"Flying Fit is specifically designed to work within the realities of a pilot's lifestyle and provide tailored strength and conditioning routines, sleep optimisation strategies, and nutritional guidance that travels with them.’’
''Lumin's platform is integral to delivering Flying Fit effectively. Features like geolocation-based daily monitoring allow us to track, in the short-term, where our pilots are and, in the long-term, how different destinations affect wellbeing. Plus, the ability to modify programs in real-time means we can adapt to last-minute roster changes quickly.’’
While Lumin’s athletic performance software is predominantly found in professional, collegiate, and academy sport environments, the demand for its services in the aviation, tactical, and defence industries is growing.
Lumin Sports Chief Executive Officer, Ben Tripodi, said high performance practices are becoming common place in professional settings outside of sport.
‘’The physical, mental, and stress-inducing demands that elite athletes endure aren’t dissimilar to pilots and tactical responders,’’ Tripodi said.
‘’High Performance is a combination of mental and physical aptitude, and our platform allows coaches like Dr Appleby to monitor both while also providing tools that allow him to communicate with his clients in real-time, wherever they are in the world.’’
‘’We look forward to working with Brendyn and the wider HUPERCO team.’’
The Lumin Sports platform is currently used by Police, Defence, and Fire & Rescue squads in Australia and the United States.
