The Los Angeles Sparks have selected Lumin Sports' strength and conditioning software, Lumin Strength, for use across the WNBA franchise's high-performance program.

Sparks strength and conditioning coaches and physical performance staff will use the platform to design, prescribe and monitor individual athlete training programs throughout the season.

LA Sparks Director of Health and Performance Chelsea Ortega said Lumin stood out for its ability to meet the specific demands of an elite basketball program and provide a more connected approach to strength and conditioning delivery.

“We brought Lumin into the WNBA LA Sparks ecosystem to provide a system that integrates multiple aspects of our basketball specific performance environment,’’ Ortega said.

‘’Lumin is a customer first platform and there were able to tailor their system to the specific needs of our organisation.’’

‘’Additionally, the athlete facing app is easy to use and allows for seamless delivery of our programming.’’

The deal expands Lumin Sports' presence in North American professional sport, with its strength and conditioning and athlete management technology now used across organisations competing in the WNBA, NBA and other major professional leagues.

Lumin Sports Chief Executive Officer Ben Tripodi said welcoming the Sparks as Lumin’s first WNBA client was an important milestone for the company.

“The LA Sparks are one of the most recognised and respected organisations in women’s professional sport, so we’re incredibly proud to welcome them to Lumin,” Tripodi said.

“What excites us most is that Chelsea and her team saw the flexibility in Lumin and how it could be shaped around the way they want to work and the performance outcomes they’re trying to achieve.’’

The Sparks are the latest professional basketball team to embed Lumin in their high performance program and follow in the footsteps of the Portland Trailblazers and teams competing in the NBL and WNBL.
